I am a hike/adventure leader for the LA based hiking group, Black Girls Trekkin and I have been an adventurer and outdoor enthusiast my entire life. I thrive on exploring the world around me and love trying new (often extreme) activities and traveling the world. I want to see and do as much as I can while I have the ability to travel: a healthy body, mind and lots of airline miles!
I am a self-defense instructor and sexual assault prevention educator that speaks to a variety of audiences on prevention, personal safety and empowerment. Helping people harness their inner strength and be confident is one of my great joys in life.
Hoka One One Sky Kaha Hiking Boot - Women's
The Sky Kaha boot by Hoka is my new favorite hiking boot. There was no break in period necessary. Right out of the box they were comfortable and after my first hike I didn’t have a single blister or rub spot on my foot or ankle. That is unheard of! I took these boots through several water crossings and the water just beads off. My foot was in the river for extended periods of time dozens of times during a hike and my feet stayed completely dry. They are so comfortable and the traction is great. I can scramble and maneuver over loose dirt without any fear of slipping. These boots also have a great lacing system that allow you to get it nice and tight around your ankle with enough padding so it is still a comfortable fit. These boots run a little big which I thought would be a problem but it has been a huge plus. It leaves space for your feet to expand on long hikes and the extra room also keeps my toes from hitting the front of the shoe on descents. From short hikes to long, I won’t hike in anything else!
Osprey Tempest 20L Backpack
This was the very first backpack I purchased when I learned about hiking gear and had an idea of what I needed to fit my specific needs. This pack has been with me all over the world and around the country and I love it! It is comfortable to wear for long periods, even when I have it packed completely to the brim! There are mesh pockets on the sides for extra storage and the mesh pocket in the front is a lifesaver for quick access. My favorite features are the zippered pockets on the waistband for my phone and chapstick/essentials and the bladder compartment is OUTSIDE the backpack so you have easy access to it anytime you need to fill or remove it. I was so happy with this that I purchased a smaller Osprey brand backpack for my shorter hikes too!
Fox Outfitters Airlite 100 Sleeping Pad
I love my airlite 100! This sleeping pad packs up small into a stuff sack and is extremely light to carry. It takes less than 3minutes to inflate and the pump is built in so you don’t need to carry anything else with you. I find that using my foot (no shoe, but with a sock) is the most effective and quickest way to get it inflated fast. Once inflated this pad is very comfortable to sleep on! And it’s small enough that you put it inside your sleeping bag if it’s large enough. When it’s time to deflate, there are 2 valves on the bottom that you unscrew so that the air pushes out as you fold and roll it flat. It’s so incredibly efficient! I would absolutely recommend this and in fact I got one for my sister!
Outdoor Voices The Exercise Dress
I am head over heels in love with this dress! I was able to try it on in the store and I couldn’t believe how comfortable it was and how amazingly it fit. The material is stretchy and lays nice and flat against the body while hugging you in the right places. The shorts underneath stay in place while walking and moving and the material moves easily with the body and stays in place...nothing rides up! It works great as a casual dress to handle a day of errands and it is comfortable and cool to work out in. I have it in red and I can’t wait to purchase other colors!
