Hi! In a sentence, I am a weekend warrior that is trying to balance too many hobbies. My main focus is rock climbing but I also love mountain biking, backpacking and trail running. Anything that gets me outdoors I can get excited about and if I can bring my camera with me then that's even better!
Sawyer Squeeze Water Filter System
Dpendable and so much better than a pump
I used this system (just the filter no bag) on my JMT thru hike. The filter screws onto smart water bottles and is super easy to use and only slowed down slightly towards the end. The Orings are a bit soft so if you over tighten your filter you can risk crushing them. Id carry a replacement just for piece of mind.
prAna Stretch Zion Pant
Fit well, stretchy, not too warm, comfortable, durable enough to be abused on climbing trips. One of my go to long pants!
Petzl Grigri 2 Belay Device
The standard in the industry. Any other belay device should be benchmarked off this. The AL wear plate is usually the death of these but thats only after a long time.
Osprey Exos 58 Backpack
No idea why anyone would want something heavier
Ultralight without any compromise. Short of going to a cottage manufacturer you’ll be hard pressed to find better value, comfort and durability!
Scarpa Instinct VS Climbing Shoe
One of my all time favorite shoes. Break in time is quicker than other brands and they are sticky and accurate.
Topo Designs River Shorts - Men's
Great shorts, get them on sale
The Topo Deign River Shorts are basically my go-to for summer days. They are advertised as water shorts but are great for hiking, climbing and just hanging out. I have a size 31 waist and the mediums are a good fit. The River Shorts are approximately 5" inseam and very stretchy. The material is not the 'silky' type of fabric that you might be used to for swim trunks but feels more similar to a starchy cotton. It's a bit rougher on your skin but I think that has to do with the DWR treatment which wicks water off when you get them slightly wet. Overall they are very comfortable in and out of the water. My only real complaint is with the belt lock system. The buckle works great and holds them securely on my waist but the elastic on the waist band seems to be a bit limited. This means that if you loosen the belt strap, then go to put them on or off you will likely hit the limits of the elastic much sooner than you think. This is kind of annoying because even with the belt all the way loose they are a bit tight on and off. I would think that because they have the belt they could just add extra elastic but oh well. The color I have is yellow which I don't think is offered anymore but incase it ever comes back it looks great!
