I’m a hiker, mountaineer, and adventurer. I’m a working mom and I volunteer for search and rescue.
My friends would say that I am the person who can always convince them to do something they never thought they could or would. Whether that means summitting a mountain or jumping in a frozen lake. I enjoy sharing my passion for adventure with others.
Mpowered Luci Color Inflatable Solar Light
So much fun
This light is so much FUN. It is one of the only things I bring that I don’t really need per say. Even on ultralight trips when I’m counting ounces I bring this guy along. It’s perfect for going to bed or waking up in the morning and adding a bit of light in the tent without having to mess around with headlights.
Black Diamond Vapor Helmet
Light and breathable helmet
This helmet is lightweight which makes it easy to carry on the approach. Adding any unnecessary weight on my head while climbing would be absolute torture. Other helmets I’ve tried seriously feel like wearing a bucket on my head. I love the open ventilation on this model. I will note that it‘s a bit fragile. Be careful with setting your pack down if the helmet is clipped to the outside. The outer shell dents scratches and dings easily but it doesn’t affect the function.
Osprey Eja 58 Backpack
Light weight awesome pack
This pack is really everything I was looking for. I have been working for years on cutting pack weight down but I like my toys and creature comforts too much to go truly “ultralight”. This pack is the best of both worlds. It carries moderate weight loads with so much ease it’s easy to forget I’m carrying a full pack. The open suspension on the back piece allows airflow which really cuts down on the awkward and uncomfortable back sweat issue. The shoulder straps are made of a soft foam which adds even another layer of comfort.
Outdoor Research Cirque Softshell Pant
Stellar mountaineering pants
These pants are great! They allow movement easily and are fitted in all the right places to don a harness, gaiters, boots. They have some wind protection and dry quickly. The one thing I will say is that they run larger than expected. I typically wear a size 10-12 so I initially purchased a large but had to exchange for a medium in these which I was not expecting. Consider sizing down.
Outdoor Research Helium II Jacket - Women's
ultralight packable jacket
This jacket packs down to the size of a sandwich. It’s sheds rain as expected. It’s perfect to keep in the pack and throw on for a sudden downpour. If worn for extended periods of time in the rain, eventually some moisture does permeate through but this is neither unexpected nor unwelcome as this also allows for breathability when you are are sweating wearing this shell.
Geigerrig Pressurized Hydration Engine and Reservoir
Can’t say enough good things
Let me tell you about the time this water system saved our whole trip (combined with the ultra light geigerrig inline filter). Our planned filtration system failed about 2 hours into a 4 day backpacking trip. I had of course brought my years old geigerrig and the in line filter that I keep with my first aid kit for emergencies. We ended up pushing the limits of this system which performed like a champ. I like that you can use it with or without the pressurized inflation pump. The ability to pressurize and spray water can be really handy at times.
Hilleberg Nammatj 2 GT
The mother of all tents!
This tent is amazing. Whether it’s snowing, pouring rain, gusting heavy winds it’ll keep you safe and secure. I’ve never set out for a trek across Antartica but if I ever do, I’ll be ready. There is ample room for 2 people and a fair amount of gear inside the inner tent. You don’t have to sleep head to feet or shoulder to shoulder in this tent. The vestibule is huge and super fun to trench out in deeper snow and make a porch. The inner tent has several layers of venting options to fine tune the ventilation based on the weather, wind and comfort. This tent does require some practice in anchoring it well and a open space to pitch it and secure all of the guylines to anchor.
Thermarest NeoAir® All Season™ SV
It’s the best parts of the neoair xlite and the neoair xtherm. A lightweight compact mattress that keeps you comfortably off the ground with a high enough r value to use sleeping on snow. I love the rectangle shape as I toss and turn at night and somehow always end up with my legs hanging off the mummy bag shaped thin pads. As I’ve found with the rest of the neoair line, this mattress can be loud and sound like you are sleeping on a bag of potato chips. To this I say “WORTH IT”.
Outdoor Research Women's Floodlight Down Parka
Waterproof down parka
This jacket is really great. I love that I can put it out of my pack, put it on and keep warm and dry at the same time. I have used this jacket for years and it has held up really well with time. It is versatile enough to function as an alpine parka for climbing then easily wear into work as a winter jacket. It packs down well to go into a pack or fluffs out nicely to be used as a pillow.
Osprey SIRRUS 36 Women's
Awesome pack overall
This empty pack is a bit heavy compared to what I typically carry but I had been looking for comfortable mid size pack for years. I have bought, borrowed, tried on and carried countless 30some liter packs and I just couldn’t find one I could pack full of weight and still feel comfortable, until this pack. I bought this primarily as a training pack for longer backpacking trips. I can load this pack with rice bag or water weight and it carries so easily. It doesn’t bounce or tip like other packs and I can maneuver over boulders and trees easily even with a loaded pack. The adjustable back panel really helps with the fine tuning to make the pack even more comfortable. As a side bonus it fits perfectly in an overhead bin on an airplane as a carry on. There are plenty of lash points, clips and straps that add even more functionality. I’ve been surprised at how well this pack has held up despite heavy use (and at times abuse) for over a year.
Outdoor Research Women's Voodoo Pants
These pants are soft and comfortable. They conform and fit well without that “too tight” look for those of us with thighs and a booty. Comfortable to use with a harness. They move, flex, and stretch to allow for easy climbing. They are better for cooler weather than for heat. They aren’t water resistant but they dry very quickly. For sizing, they fit as expected for a climbing pant, SMALL. I typically wear an 8-10 in ladies pants, these fit me perfect in a 12.
Altra Lone Peak 3.5 Trail Running Shoes
Amazing trail runner/hikers
The features in these shoes are well thought out. I love the gaiter traps built in. They are great for people with a wide toe box. So comfy on long trail days over rough terrain.
