I’m passionate about the outdoors, I started backpacking 2 years ago and It’s changed my life. I have worked through tons gear to find what works best for my outdoor adventures.
Sawyer Squeeze Water Filter System
Light and effcient
This water filter system works perfectly for backpackers. It’s light and can easily filter a lot of water in a short amount of time. I don’t recommend the bags they come with because the opening is too small and hard to fill, instead buy CNOC bags on Amazon! They fit perfectly with the Sawyer filter. Do not forget to back flush the system after using it or after your trip to ensure that it gets Cleaned and it doesn’t crust and dry. If this happens the filter will stop working and it’s really Hard to get the water flowing again after that.
NEMO Rave 15F Sleeping Bag
Fetal position and still warm
When i was first looking for sleeping bags, I was looking for something that was going to keep me warm since we were going to the eastern Sierras in May and the snow hadn’t thawed out yet! It was cold! I tried many sleeping bags at REI. The sales associate was trying to talk me into a mummy style bag because it would keep me the warmest, but I got in and I felt stuck. I could t move me legs and i felt a bit claustrophobic. When I said that he pulled out this bag. It’s a spoon shape, so you are able to move around a bit more, sleep on your side comfortably and move your legs around. It comes in a regular and a long, i for the long because I was in the in between in height. (I’m 5’6 ) but I like to put my down jacket at my feet for extra warmth and in the morning the down is super warm to put on! This bag has vent zippers if you get too hot, an attached face cover if you get really cold, and a pocket for a small pillow to keep it in place. It packs down really easy and fits perfectly in my pack. (Both Osprey Aura and Aether pack) it’s a little too warm for summer weather but i use it as a comforter with my sleeping pad and it works just fine. All things said and I done, I love this sleeping bad and highly recommend it!
Thermarest NeoAir XLite Sleeping Pad
Side sleeper heaven
This sleeping pad is the best! Especially my for side sleepers. You can’t feel the ground at all! Even if there is a rock or 2 under you you wouldn’t be able to tell. Its an all season sleeping pad, and I’ve personally tested it in all different weather. It’s worked wonders! I do move a lot and wish it was a little wider, but as many of you know with backpacking every oz. counts! it is a little noisy, due to its insulation but after a long day of hiking, it doesn’t bother me.
