Hey!! I'm Charla! Orginally from Nova Scotia Canada, I grew up spending all my time running around my families hay fields or getting smothered by the crazy fun waves of the Atlantic Ocean! I've journeyed across Canada and now spend my time working and playing in Vancouver British Columbia! I was meant to be in the PNW! Year round I spend all my time and energy planning and participating in the next outdoor adventure! Whether it's running along the trails after work, or out on a 5 day kayak trip, I love it all!!
MSR WhisperLite Stove
Great cold weather stove!
It's an MSR product, so you know it's going to be good! I've always used a jet boil and love it! BUT the more I get into cold weather trips, my jet boil fuel canisters were getting too cold and not efficiently boiling my water. This MSR whisperlite let's you use a variety of liquid fuels (so less stress if you forget your fuel at home and need to make a last minute trip to the nearest gas station), and it is much more efficient in the cold weather. Downside is that it is a process to get going, but like most gear, once you figure it out it isn't so bad! Overall, in the summer for a quick 1 or 2 night trip I will probably bring my jet boil, but any longer trips where I need more fuel, or colder temperatures, I will definitely bring this stove!
YETI Rambler Tumbler 20 oz
Keep it cold or hot..forever!
If I didn't need my coffee so badly in the morning, I swear this yeti cup would keep it hot all day! I definitely paid more then i thought i ever would for a coffee mug, but it really has been worth every dollar. Some people have told me they find the diameter of the mug is too large for their hand to hold comfortably- I dont have this problem, but something to consider. I also find it a bit too heavy to backpack with, but for every day work day use, road trips and car camping, I wouldn't trade it in for any other mug!
GSI Outdoors Soft-Sided Wine Carafe - 750 ML
Every campsite needs a glass of wine!
I love hiking, I love kayaking, I love camping AND I looovveee wine! After working hard all day, it's nice to be able to have a glass of wine, but there's no way I want to carry a heavy glass bottle in and out of the woods! This carafe has been the perfect addition to allowing me to kick my feet up and relax whe enjoying an amazing sunset/glacier lake!
Starbucks Via Instant Coffee Italian Roast
Coffee =Hiking fuel
If you're like myself, you absolutely cannot start your day without at least 1 cup of coffee. But carrying your coffee maker of choice is not always an option in the back country! I've tried a number of different instant coffee packets, and an aeropress, but in terms of price, flavor, and convenience of being able to buy it anywhere, I have continued to stick with my Starbucks instant packets!
Arc'teryx Zeta AR Jacket - Women's
Great hiking coat for wet weather!
Went to the arcteryx store explaining that I was looking for a goretex coat that could handle hiking and kayaking in the rainy weather we get here on the Pacific Northwest. Hey specificlly suggested the Zeta AR for its durability for carrying a backpack, light weight/compact for carrying during the non rainy days, as well as having a slightly longer coat on the back to have more coverage when being active. I'm 5'10", 165lbs, athletic build and wear a size large. Able to layer easy without being too large.
Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoody - Women's
Favorite jacket for everything!!
I had heard a lot of great things about this light, but warm Arcteryx Atom LT jacketed. BUT it wasn't until I purchased my own that I really appreciated how awesome it really is! I bring it as a warm layer for hiking in the summer, under my gortex when skiing, going for a walk down to the beach in the fall, and it travels with me pretty much everywhere. At one point I had a few threads unraveling around the wrist - I sent it back to Arcteryx and they quickly fixed up and cleaned the coat so it looked brand new! Very happy with this purchase. I'm 5'10", 165lbs, athletic build, and I wear a size large in this jacket.
Darn Tough Hike/Trek Light Hiker Micro Crew Light Cushion Sock - Women's
Best socks ever!
These socks are the best outdoor socks for hiking, biking, trail running, playing ultimate frisbee, etc! I wear a size 10 or 11 shoe and purchased the Womens Size Large socks. They've handled the wear and tear well and continue to hold up after multiple washes. I purchased mine at MEC (basically the Canadian version of REI) and they told me if at any point I got holes in my socks that I could bring the socks back to MEC, give me a new pair and send the holey socks back under the lifetime guarantee!
Sea to Summit X Pot Kettle
Great kettle OR pot!
This year I decided to start making my own dehydrated meals. This meant I no longer had the convenience of the pre packaged bags to cook my food in. I wanted a light weight pot that would not take up much room in my pack. I ended up getting this "kettle" (which I use as a pot) and 2 collapsible bowls. I LOVE it! Easy to carry, easy to clean, and easy to cook in.. it is super stable and not flimsy. It works well for 2 people - anymore and you would want to go up a size (which is quite a bit bigger). The pot is a bit pricey, but has been worth every penny for my gear needs.
Sensi Graves Kyla Reversible Bikini Bottom
Bottoms that stay on!
These were the first bikini bottoms I bought from sensi graves bikinis and I'd happy only ever wear this style for the rest of my life! They fit well, the 3 straps on the side don't pinch my skin, they are reversible, and they have a good amount of coverage but still cheeky ! I'm 5'9, 165lb, athletic build and I wear a size large. These also fit well under a wetsuit for those that also live in cold water areas like I do!
Sensi Graves Jennifer Bikini Bottom
Good surf bottoms!
Great thing about these bottoms isn't that's they have a tie on the side so that when your out surfing, kiteboarding, wakeboarding or just jumping off the dock, the bottoms stay on MUCH better then most! The cut around the bum is super flattering so you look good while shredding!
